Rosie McGurran
"She has a genuinely painterly touch and
a dimension of almost surreal imaginativeness..."

About MeRosie Mcgurran works mostly in acrylics and charcoals/pastels. Her work ranges from very small paintings, (4"x4") to large scale work (20'x20'). She is constantly drawing and sometimes creates her best ideas on the back of envelopes, on old newspapers or on utility bills and writes endless notes and ideas in her sketchbooks.

Drawing is at the heart of what she does and she has always maintained this discipline at the core of her practice.

Large landscape drawings using heavy charcoal and pastel hav recently featured work mostly depicting the village of roundstone, where she lives and works. As the Harbour is the central heart of the village, Rosie McGurran has turned her eye to the man made beauty of a structure  set in the most beautiful of natural surroundings.

The paintings of women have a more personal element and in some ways are an encrypted visual diary of the artists life. Often these works just arrive without any planning or research and often contain elements of life in the west of Ireland turned around into strange accessories and props.

The Artist see these works in a different thread from her landscape work, she envisages all these characters as players with an ever evolving script using objects and elements form their familiar landscape as props and toys.
